Welcome to Smoky River Regional Economic Development and Tourism

Smoky River Region, the gateway to Alberta's northwest and the historic Peace River country invites you with its natural beauty and ancient waterways. The population demonstrates bilingual cultural experiences and business opportunities. Four hours northwest of Edmonton, on the threshold of Peace river country this region is imbued with a living francophone history.

Following World War 1, the French canadian migration was encouraged by the Oblate missionaries to tap into the vast tracks of fertile land in this region. The communities of Falher, Donnelly, Girouxville, Guy, and McLennan are living proof of the resiliency of those early residents. Schools, clubs, sporting and social events, and the daily lives of the people and communities in Smoky River Region reveal this rich legacy.
