Jennifer Moore has been hired as the new Economic Development Officer for Smoky River Regional Economic Development.  She comes to the area from central British Columbia and has worked with grassroots economic development organizations for the past decade.  She looks forward to working with the community, government and business leaders to develop new opportunities for the area.  Stop by to visit her at the MD office or give her a call to share your comments and concerns.

 


Smoky River Regional Economic Development has received $75,000 from the Rural Community Adaption Grant to undergo a study called The Business Vitality Index.

 


The Village of Girouxville has received $500,000 from the Major Facilities Enhancement Fund to be put towards a new Bowling Alley for the region.


The Village of Donnelly has received 1.5 million dollars for the "Paving East Village of Donnelly Project", which was funded by the Building Canada Fund.  It is anticipated that the project will be underway in August of this year.

Smoky River Regional Economic Development

The Smoky River Regional Economic Development board was established to help strengthen the economy of the region. Their mandate is as follows:

a) To develop and implement an Economic development Action Plan for the Smoky River Region

b) To promote existing resources and encourage new commercial and industrial development

c) To assist existing commercial and industrial businesses with proposed expansion or diversification projects

d) To develop marketing tools for the attraction of new economic ventures and promotion of existing programs and services

Smoky River Tourist Association

Smoky River Tourist Association - also known as Tourisme Smoky River Tourism was registered as a society instablished in 1995.   The Association works with the five municipalities (Village of Donnelly, Village of Girouxville, Town of Faher, Town of McLennan and the M.D. of Smoky RIver #130) to promote the region in all aspects of tourism services.

Membership to the association is made up of the municipalities, businesses and individual members from across the region and who have an interest in travel and tourism services.

The Association operates the regional Visitor Information Centre and hires staff during the summer months.   Montly meetings are held each month on the first Wednesday of the month.
